Matara Hospital staff on trade unions action

Doctors and all the employees including the nursing staff belonging to 14 trade unions in Matara General Hospital are engaged in strike action. It is to protest against the failure to arrest the main suspect regarding the death of Ms. Janaki Bandusena, a doctor who served in the hospital. She died due to injuries she received in a bus accident.

Dr. Lakmal Ranasinghe, the Secretary of the Matara branch of the Government Medial Officers Association said emergency services however are being maintained. The police say investigations are being carried out to arrest the main suspect of the incident.
