A youth who had allegedly possessed pornographic video clips on his mobile phone was arrested by police on Galle Road in Kollupitiya and produced before the Colombo Fort Acting Magistrate who released him on bail.

The suspect Duncan de Saram was arrested by Kollupitiya police after inspecting his suspicious behaviour on the roadsides. The Kollupitiya police informed court that they were able to recover 15 pornographic video clips on the suspect’s mobile phone.

Police further told court that mobile phone pornography falls under section 2 of the Obscene Publications Act No 22 of 1983 and as such the suspect had committed a punishable offence.

Having taking into consideration the nature of the offence, the Acting Magistrate ordered that the suspect be released on a Rs.100,000 surety bail.
