MP Duminda Silva is being given speech therapy

According to highly placed hospital sources at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, MP Duminda Silva is being given speech therapy and is currently undergoing an extensive rehabilitation process following the surgery.

Two Singapore-based US neurosurgeons are already in the country to scrutinise the injured parliamentarian at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital.

They said the two specialists were flown to the country by the family of the parliamentarian. The MP is likely to be taken to Singapore after an assessment by the two specialists.

But the sources said that a time frame for such an airlift is very difficult to be given right now as he is a patient with serious head injuries. “You need a team of doctors to accompany him as it will take nearly 10 hours to get to the required destination,” he said.

Sri Jayawardenapura General Hospital Director Dr. Shavendra Gamage said the parliamentarian is gradually recovering slowly and is now responding to deep pain as well. “The MP is responding to deep pain and deep commands. He moves his arms and legs for deep commands which is a sign that his condition is improving,” he said.

Security in and around the Sri Jayawardenapura General Hospital continues to be tight since MP Silva was admitted to the hospital.
